Music and What's New

Lyrics (Last Train to Joy Album)

Miles and Miles

I’ve been waiting around for something

Darling I’ve been waiting around

Waiting for it to come out the sky, fall in my hand

Come out of nowhere, just like that yah, yah

Just wait for it to come around the bend again

Wait for it to come around

Come around I reach out my hand, maybe catch me some wind

Maybe some rain, going to wash away your pain bang, bang

I’ve been seeing for miles and miles

Just staring at the  sky

Lying on the back

Watch the clouds go by

Miles and miles

I’ve been buying and selling out my time again

Buy and then I sell then I buy

Selling it for me and you, all that we do

In between the public and the private scene

You ask me where I’m going

I tell you, I tell you where I’m from

You ask me what is real

I tell you what I think is ideal yah

Between the Lines

I’m rising with the dusk

In a dreamland that I can trust

Where the actors know their lines

And there’s no such thing as time

But I don’t know whether it is blue or black

I’m walking the line with hesitation breathing down my back

And now I sit here writing the lines

The less I think my mind starts to unwind

And now I want the bookmark to rest on you

But there’s still many pages left to read

I know that it’s time and it’s of the essence indeed

I know, I know

We’re just dancing right in front of the guns

I know, I know

There’s got to be a million ways that this all can be done

She’s well acquainted with the rush

And the whisper’s that make her blush

When the waitress takes her tips

And plans these elaborate trips

But she don’t know whether it is good or bad

She thinking of haves rather than what she hasn’t had

Now she sits there, between the lines

The less she thinks her mind starts to unwind

Now she wants the bookmark to rest on you

But there’s still many pages left to read

I know that it’s time and it’s of the essence indeed

I know, I know

We’re just dancing in front of the guns

I know, I know

There’s got to be a million ways that this all can be done

This is one

Jazz you Speak

She never went away

She only slowed the pace down

Let in and out your breath

Watch things settle down

She’ll call you if she wants to but then she knows the way home

Something that you said has got her dreaming, dreaming

The spark the muse, the naked truth, something comes alive

Now you can take it

Twisted dreams, narcotic schemes, they lie asleep in bed

You can wake them

All this time you seem to have, somehow now you’ve let it flow by

Questions asked inside your cell, you let them go but you don’t know why

She likes to take her time

Taiga like a tightened drum

In the waiting room

You read it from the back to front

She’ll call you if she needs to but then she knows the way home

Something that she said has got you thinking

Around Every Corner

So far away

So close at hand

We seem to waste

The best and thought out laid down plan

No time to reminisce now it’s a fast and flowing game

Let’s lay the money down and burn the perpetual flame

I see people going places

And by the way they’re stealing faces too

The competition’s off the cuff

But at the top there’s such a view

Well the ceiling is glass

And the music is blue

Sometimes a brilliant mind

It rarely comes into view

No time to ponder this now it’s a fast and flowing game

Let’s lay the dogma down and walk through the swinging gate

I see people judging faces

And by the way they’re sealing races fates

The competition’s off the cuff

But by the end it’s a little too late

Around every corner

Around every bend

There’s a silver lining in the end

It don’t really matter where you go

There’s more room up above than below

Forbidden Sky

I saw you late the other day

And you were looking far away

Out on the edge of town

You said there’s something you could do

To make this world look new

And you’re doing it right this way

You said you’re gonna leave this town

And that you won’t be hangin’ around

To watch the sun go down

You say you’ll be out on the range

And no longer in a cage

And free to fly so high

There’s lots of good around here

That I know

And leaving’s gonna be really tough

But you can’t stay here

I know that much

You’ve got to see some forbidden sky

You draw your wings, rock n’ roll, and blow this town

Go on and fly

And when you’re way out on the road

Where you gonna turn and go

When things get kind of low

Tell me will you think of me

And all the things that couldn’t be

Are you doing it right this way

There’s lots of good out there

That I know

And staying’s gonna be really tough

But I can’t go there

I know that much

I’ve gotta see some familiar sky

So draw your wings, rock n’ roll, and blow this town

Go on and fly

Real Kind of Love

You could be the wall or you could be the picture that hangs on it’s side

There’s a bit of luck involved and a strong chance that you’ve got to use your mind

I don’t know why people like to stand on the sideline

Oh but I’m doing it to and I’m watching you all the way home

Because she’s got a real kind of love

She’s got a real kind of love

You could be the crowd or you could be the person blinded by the light

I tend to be the latter but the crowd is a good place to hide

And know I’m torn between the brutal truth and the little white lie

Oh but I’m following that daisy chain and it’s leading back to you

Because she’s got a real kind of love

She’s got a real kind of love

So she says I won’t let you down

I won’t let you down

Permanent Distraction

All this time

You’ve been reading my mind

You’ve been reading my mind

You were speaking softly to me

Yet I couldn’t even hear

I couldn’t quite see

Oceans apart by day

But the pieces come together by night

Oh how your pendulum swings

Just like that clock above your bed

It’s getting into your head

It’s getting into your head

But there’s no need to worry, no need to hurry

I’ve got your back now

We could make a new situation, a mental vacation

A permanent distraction

That’s what I can be to you

You ask me will the feeling stay

Through the every day

Will it manifest the same old way

Because sometimes the memory slips

It falls right down the steps

Leaves me weaving through the wooden ships

But there’s no need to worry, no need to hurry

You’ve got my back now

We could make a new situation, a mental vacation

A permanent distraction

That’s what you can be to me

Everyone Gets Down

I’ve been thinking about

Subtleties in your mood

It takes some time to work it out

But it seems you want the same thing too

Well time keeps ticking and it won’t stop

We’re all just waiting for a bomb to drop

Fear comes around like a late night junkie

Waiting outside at the end of the party now,

Somehow,

The good feeling,

It comes back around

You’ve got a way with words

Takes the conversation high above the birds

And I can’t tell if we’re flying or if we freefall

I guess we’ll let the dust settle down awhile

See what comes down from the sky

I’ve been thinking about

What is going wrong with me

It takes sometime to work things out

When you’re stuck in your own psyche

People keep building and they won’t stop

We’ll build it up high until it has to drop

We fall down like some local martyrs

Makes the work seem even harder now

Somehow,

The good feeling,

It comes back around

Celebrate when the sun goes down

We light the candles and everyone gets down

And we don’t care if we’re flying or if we freefall

I guess we’ll let the dust settle down awhile

See what comes up from the ground

New Situation

There’s a way out of this and it’s with an iron fist

Going to start a new situation

Going to leave that fire behind, going to find the warmth on the front line

Going to start a new situation now

Going to start it right now

I’m well ahead now but I’m looking back

There’s plenty of diamonds in my littered past

But I’m on my way

Getting closer everyday

That’s why I’m going to get up and take that ride

See to the other side

Listening while in stride

Oh yah

Oh wide river

You just go flowing on by

Oh wide river

Don’t you go passing us by

Leave us high and dry

That’s why we’ve got to get up and take that ride

See to the other side

Listening while in stride

Oh yah

Walking the edge of beauty’s forgotten face

Rain

Oh the silence is like gold

Nothing talking in your ear

But the air is filled with sense of song

Oh how you long for the sound

You long for the sound

The sound

Feet close to the ground

But society looks insane

Just standing in the rain

When you see the clouds ahead

It’s going to come raining on down

Raining on down

I heard you listen to Murdoch and the Stones

A little from every side

You see the beast’s in the burden of your needs

When you’re hiding amongst the weeds

You’ve been hanging out on the side

So many places to go

To hide

But society looks insane

Just standing in the rain

When you see the clouds ahead

It’s going to come raining on down

Raining on down

While you Dream

I’ve been picking and prodding at the puzzle that leads me staring out this open window

The last trip I took has left me on the floor and seeing double

She said that live is life and death is what happens while you dream

And it looks like desire is capable of taking me on that road again

I could see her giving away roadmaps for the soul

I could see her temporarily getting out of control

I could see her on the edge trying to make up her mind

I could see her standing the test, standing the test of time

He’s been tailoring his time for the television and all of the talk that it brings

Sitting there on call and waiting for that bell to ring

And when it does his days will dance with a lonely speed and grace

And next to a picture of freedom

You’re going to see his face

I could see him giving it away for not very much at all

I could see him next to people kneeling and him standing tall

Ain’t it funny how things can change so fast

One second you’re on the brakes, the next  you’re on the gas

Last Train to Joy

I see you walking out of line

Drinking and thinking, yah, lubricating your mind

You see it in the writer’s eye, painter’s dreams, and the mad hatter’s brilliant schemes

So you roll from town to town

All the neon city signs

So far from home

In a crowd but all alone

Some dreams they’re up in the sky

Yah, to get to them you sometimes got to get high

But meanwhile down below, the fear is spreading and it’s quickly getting out of control

So we move from country sides

To the suburbs where people hide

Behind wooden and brick walls

And fences that stand so tall, so high

If you wait long enough you’re bound to see some change

Yah joy sounds logical but sometimes it’s so far away

It’s only a train away my good friend
